6 Ways to Entertain the Kids on Travel Days
Travel days can be a real stress for plenty of parents, this post is full of ideas to keep kids entertained on long flights, road trips and ensure you have a stress free journey!
1. Travel Journal
For most the purpose of family holidays is not only to spend some quality time together but also to experience new things and visit new places. Make a journal where they can draw the interesting things they saw, write down the names of people they met or stick in some maps or cards/passes to the places you have visited. It's a great way to get them involved and they will love showing friends and family when they get home.
Audiobooks are a great way to avoid too much screen time and you can easily find something all the kids can enjoy.
3. Craft Packs
Take a trip to your local discount store before you travel and stock up on things like crayons and craft bits. Make a pack for each child (no fights!) you can even include things like Cheerios and liquorice laces to make necklaces they can then snack on on the way. You could even add in play-dough to make on the plane.
Now most family friednly games come in a travel size, you can easily pick up a mini snakes and ladders or monopoly which should keep the kids entertained for a few hours. You can also add in some card games and even teach them some card tricks.
5. Take Pictures
Let them take pictures on your phone or tablet, they can also add these into their travel journals. You may be surprised at the quality of the images- kids see things different to adults so things we may miss they might capture on camera. You could also invest in a Vtech Kidizoom kids camera which comes loaded with stickers and make photography super fun for the little ones. Plus it has some games and space to add songs so the kids are always entertained even if there isn’t anything interesting to photograph.
Treats are a great way to keep the kids quiet, chewy sweets are also great if you are flying as the movement of the their jaw will ease any pain in their ears.
