Stingray excursion at Sandy Cay
Ever dreamed of feeding stingrays and swimming with lemon sharks? The thought of it is a lot scarier than it sounds, but when you’re in the hands of guides from West End Ecology Tours, you know you’ll be just fine. On this Freeport excursion, set out by boat from Old Bahama Bay, on the west end of Grand Bahama Island, and ride thirty minutes out to Sandy Cay. Sandy Cay is surrounded by shallow, crystal clear blue waters. Here you will spend some time with the sting rays and learn how to feed them. Just be sure to keep your hands above water, and don’t be scared. If you’re calm, they’ll be calm too! After spending some time with the stingrays, you’ll head to a nearby shipwreck to snorkel.
Have dinner at a fish fry
If you want a truly local experience, having dinner at Fish Fry is one of the best things to do in Freeport for foodie travelers. They only take place on Wednesday nights, so ensure that your trip planning allows for this. It’s the best opportunity to have conch fritters and local beer. A number of them take place next to each other at Smith’s Point (near Freeport). Be sure to stay past 9 pm when the music gets going.
